I arrived here a week ago and have been enjoying some serious "down time". It has been just what the doctor ordered!! Even with the hurricane off of the big island and a very serious fire about 20 miles from here, I have been able to relax and enjoy my big sister and her family. I am staying at her sister-in-laws' home (she is in Vegas for 2 weeks) that actually shares her back fence with my sister. I am living with an African Gray Parrot that has quite an imaginative vocabulary (he yells "I'm Home!!" when I get there, for instance) and is open to new phrases, so it has been fun. His name is Charlie. The first time he said "Harv, bring me a Bud Light!" I laughed so hard I cried. (Harv is my brother-in-law). Now I am teaching him to say "Aloha Sharon" and "You're so special". We'll see how that goes.
I have been walking in the mornings with my sister and bro-in-law and yesterday we went to a beautiful park in Central Oahu by a place called Pearl City. It was huge. Apparently it used to be a big pineapple field and now it has a free pool, tennis courts, soccer fields and baseball diamonds, besides the kiddie play areas. I jogged around it the last lap and I was tired by the time I was done.
I have eaten saimin and squid (my nephew James went spear fishing Sunday and we had it that night--not too bad, actually). My sister married a Hawaiian and my niece & nephews are teaching me so much about their culture. I have learned how to make 2 different kinds of leis and have met 5 of my great neices & nephews that I hadn't met yet.
I hope everyone is having a great week. Happy Birthday to my little granddaughter Tess! One year old already and lots more to come!! Her big sister is 5 in just a week and so excited about school! I guess Spence now has his tickets to Brazil paid for and so that means he really is going to go!! Wow... another wedding coming up!! Thanks to my hubby in letting me have this time - I know it isn't easy!! Love to everyone!
